Downhill from here: Graeme Mudd is one of the most talented downhill racers in NSW and will hit the trails near Kempsey this Sunday.

The event will be hosted by the local mountain bike club, the Kempsey-Macleay Off Road Cyclists (KMORC), on Sunday at its trail complex near the Kempsey Golf Club.

It is the biggest mountain bike event ever to be staged in Kempsey with more than 100 competitors from all over NSW set to compete.

KMORC president Jayson Shelley said hosting the event is a big reward for the local club.

“This is probably one of the only times an event like this has been staged outside of a major population centre,” Shelley said.

“It is a big vote of confidence in the club, basically we have to build and maintain the trails and the event organisers come in and do the registration, timing, first-aid etc.

“In return we get a cut of the entry fees so it works out for us as well.”

Shelley said Gravity Enduro racing combines several different riding disciplines, making it popular with riders.

“It is the best of downhill racing and cross-country trail riding, and you don’t need a specialised downhill bike to compete.

“It is not the crazy downhill stuff you see in Europe, and it is well suited to all sorts of riders.”

The Rollercoaster Gravity Enduro series gets underway on Sunday June 29 with registration at the Kempsey Golf Club.

Practice runs start at 9am with racing proper beginning at 1pm and spectators are welcome to attend. Just go to the Kempsey Golf Club and follow the directions from there.
